The people of  Awka, the Anambra state capital, now have a new substation equipped with 60MVA transformers.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who inspected and commissioned the project, said it will boost economic activities in the state and the region.

The project conceived in 2006 to provide a longer-term solution to the growing electricity demand of Akwa and environs will facilitate the evacuation of at least 100 megawatts of electricity.

The new substation is expected to remove the constraints and supply bottlenecks posed by the mobile transformer arrangement that has been in place for several years.
