A Vietnam veteran died after he was hit in the head by would-be robbers in a Chicago parking lot, according to reports.

Keith Cooper, 73, was outside of his car in a Hyde Park strip mall near the University of Chicago when he was targeted by two suspects who demanded his property at about 12:30 p.m., police told the Chicago Tribune.

The brutes then repeatedly punched Cooper in the head, WLS reported, citing police.

Cooper was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead.

“It was senseless. It doesn’t make sense, and it hurts,” the victim’s son-in-law, Curtis Carlton, told the Tribune.

Cooper was a former US Marine who served in the Vietnam War, his family told WLS.

No arrests were immediately made, but two persons of interest were taken into custody for questioning, the reports said.
