How many Olympians does it take to break the cardboard beds at the Olympic Village? Nine, according to a viral TikTok video.
Team Israel’s Ben Wanger decided to put the beds to the test after a false rumor circulated online this month about them being “anti-sex” and only able to withstand the weight of one person.
“Been getting a lot of questions about the beds in the Olympic Village, so today we’re gonna check and see how many Israelis it takes to break one of these cardboard beds,” Wanger said at the beginning of the video.
Wagner, along with fellow Team Israel Olympians, jumped on the bed, increasing the number of people each time. The bed broke when nine people jumped at the same time.
“Anyone got an extra bed for me?” Wanger captioned the video, which appears to have since been taken down.

The cardboard beds have been a hot topic of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the Games started. A tweet by Olympic runner Paul Chelimo helped the rumor of the beds being only for one person gain traction.
“Beds to be installed in Tokyo Olympic Village will be made of cardboard, this is aimed at avoiding intimacy among athletes Beds will be able to withstand the weight of a single person to avoid situations beyond sports,” Chelimo tweeted.
“I see no problem for distance runners, even 4 of us can do.”
The cardboard bed frames, made by Japanese bedding company Airweave, can hold up to 441 pounds, according to a press release from the Olympics. They were made to be sustainable but also comfortable, according to Takashi Kitajima, a Tokyo Games organizer in charge of the Athletes’ Village.
Other Olympians took to social media to debunk the rumor of the beds being easily broken.
Irish gymnast Rhys Mcclenaghan posted a video on Twitter of him jumping on the bed to dispel the “fake news.”
For Wanger, a TikTok user @cmbreakss commented on his video that he probably should have waited to break his bed.
“I feel like this would’ve been a better ~ end of games~ experiment,” the user said.
