Brooke Shields was a “proud mama” over the weekend, sending her daughter Rowan Henchy off to prom in a dress fans might recognize: It’s the same one the actress and model wore to the Golden Globes in 1998.
“I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom,” Shields captioned an Instagram post on Saturday. The actress chose an all-white look for the occasion.
Shields, 56, collected two back-to-back nominations for best TV actress in a comedy or musical at the Golden Globes in 1997 and 1998 while starring in the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan.”
In 1998, she stepped out onto the red carpet in a matching red strapless gown and shawl. Twenty-three years later, her older daughter (Shields also shares 16-year-old Grier with screenwriter husband Chris Henchy) mirrored a pose her mom struck at the awards show as she stepped out for prom in the same gown, swapping the shawl for a corsage and a black Hermes bag.
Earlier this week, Shields shared that she was “rehabbing and rebuilding” after suffering a broken femur in February.
The actress explained in a segment on the “Today” show nearly four months ago that a simple fall while working on a balance board “snapped my femur.”
“I was on one of those balance boards that I have been doing every day,” Shields explained. “It was just something that I like to do. I’ve done it on Instagram and I stupidly switched my focus and I flew up in the air and just hit perfectly.”
Shields explained that the thigh bone, is “you know, the largest bone in the body.”
The one-time Calvin Klein jeans model initially revealed the injury when posting an Instagram video Sunday of her in a hospital gown taking extremely tentative steps with metal crutches, non-slip socks visible on her feet.
“Broke my femur. Beginning to mend,” Shields wrote in the post. “No matter what your challenge is, make a positive choice, for yourself, to move forward. #BeginningisNow.”
