Count Amy Schumer among those of us who were very confused to see her name trending this past week.
On Wednesday, Twitter account @CelinaTruckStop posted a picture of a smiling woman with a teardrop tattoo, writing that she killed a pedestrian after falling asleep at the wheel and got the ink on her face in their honor. The original post garnered nearly 9,000 retweets and 20,000 likes, while a screenshot of the bizarre image collected another 9,000 retweets and 43,000 likes.
The account appears to be for a parody site, according to fact-checking site Snopes, but that didn’t stop the internet from pointing out Schumer’s uncanny resemblance to the woman in the photo. Jokes and questions about whether that was actually Schumer surged on Twitter, causing her to be a trending topic.

Schumer learned about the peculiar situation from her colleagues while shooting her upcoming Hulu comedy series “Life & Beth” in New York.
“I got to set and they were like, ‘You’re trending on Twitter,’ and I’m like, ‘OK, somebody obviously released a sex tape from yesteryear,’ ” Schumer deadpanned, speaking to model/writer Emily Ratajkowski during a live conversation at Tribeca Festival Saturday evening.
“I really still don’t really understand it, but I felt honored to be trending for a couple days,” Schumer said. “You have so no control over the narrative or what happens. If you’re a good person and you’re doing your best, that’s all you can do, because it’s so out of your hands.”
“Did you actually look like her?” asked Ratajkowski, who was unaware of the viral moment.
“Yeah,” Schumer said. “I can see it.”
Schumer and Ratajkowski spoke for roughly 45 minutes to a packed audience on a rooftop in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood. The conversation focused primarily on the women’s activism, as they spoke at length about politics, the patriarchy and pushing for more diversity in their projects.

The actresses, who co-starred in the comedy “I Feel Pretty,” recalled being arrested together while protesting the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual misconduct by three women. Schumer said Ratajkowski was the first person she reached out to after learning the news.
“You texted me and were like, ‘Wanna go get arrested with me tomorrow?’ ” Ratajkowski recalled of the 2018 protest in Washington.
“That was it,” Schumer said. “The next time we talked was just, ‘Here’s the location.’ That was our whole conversation before going.”
“By the way, I still have a warrant in D.C.,” Ratajkowski said of the misdemeanor offense. “I never went back the next day. I owe $50.”
“Well, actually, that’s why we’re here today,” Schumer joked, motioning to the back of the audience. “Fellas …”
The Tribeca Festival continues with virtual and in-person events in New York through June 20.
