• Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, on Tuesday, March 10, revealed that he and the late Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei go way back.

Speaking during a discussion on NTV’s AMLive, Khalwale stated that he knew the former Deputy President William Ruto’s security officer before he was known to the DP.

The former senator recalled often referring to Kenei as his son. Khalwale revealed that Kenei was first assigned to former Housing Minister Soita Shitanda.

“I knew Kenei before DP knew Kenei. The Kenei we are talking about was born at the same time as my son Tigana Khalwale. So I always called him my son,” Khalwale spoke.

“We got him in 2009 when Hon Soita was looking for a good cop. So we went out and got this nice young boy,” he added.

The self-proclaimed bullfighter narrated that he and Soita would go to Kakamega in a convoy and while the former Malava MP would carry his constituents, Kenei would ride with Khalwale.

“We worked with this boy for a very long time and when Soita lost his seat, he then introduced him to the deputy president,” Khalwale narrated.

“He used to call me governor. We talked often, he used to text me all the time. We were so close,” he added.

The former senator stated that the relationship he enjoyed with the late officer is why he was demanding that DCI Kinoti does a better job in bringing his killers to book.

The sergeant, who was a security detail attached to the DP Ruto’s office in Harambee House Annex, was found dead on Thursday, February 20, 2020.

DCI detectives have, since then, been pursuing any leads that may result in the arrest of suspects implicated in Kenei’s death.

Kenei was laid to rest in his Rongai home, in Nakuru County on Saturday, March 7.

Speaking during the funeral DP Ruto tributed Kenei as a great asset in his office explaining that he never received any complaints about his work.

“There is no one time I received complaints from guests who were attended to by him. I can, therefore, say that without a doubt, he was an asset in my office… For that reason, it must be found out who, what and how he was murdered,” Ruto stated.

He promised that all individuals involved in the murder of the sergeant would not go unpunished.

“Let me tell you, all those who killed this boy because of any reason will not have any peace until we find them. Those who are running this scheme, let me tell you that unless you kill me, I am not going to back down because the country belongs to all of us… I already know some of their plans that are coming in my future,” Ruto remarked.

The DCI has concluded that Kenei was murdered ruling out suicide explaining that the suicide note which was found next to his body did not bare his handwriting.
