The 395km-long Mara River starts from the Mau Escarpment in Kenya, draining into Lake Victoria in Tanzania. Keeping some 13,504km2 of basin awash – 65 per cent of that in Kenya – Mara river means life and death for hundreds of millions in the EA Community member-countries and dozens of riparian nations along the 6,853km-long Nile to Egypt.
