Australian indie rock group Gang of Youths were the big winners on ARIAs night on Tuesday, walking away with three of the night's major gongs and adding a whole lot of new fans to their collection.
Taking home the ARIA Awards for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Group, the five band members - who all hail from Sydney's west - could hardly believe their success, and weren't about to forget where they came from. "I grew up in the inner west of Sydney and I didn't have a lot of money," said lead singer David Le'aupepe. "My parents spent the last $200 they had on a guitar, and that guitar changed my f*cking life. Go and pick up a guitar, go pick up an instrument, go and get a laptop and download some software, because the world needs good artists who have something to say."
