Watch as ‘Sherlock’ return date is revealed in surprise new trailer

Sherlock‘s return has been confirmed for January 2017, with a new surprise trailer airing last night (Wednesday, October 26).

The show’s last series aired in 2014, while lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman first played Doyle’s iconic characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in 2010.
The BBC previously revealed that series four will begin with Cumberbatch’s title character “back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time”.
A trailer airing on BBC One last night following The Great British Bake Off revealed that series four will premiere on January 1, 2017. The first episode will be titled ‘The Six Thatchers’.

The trailer also suggested possible treachery from Sherlock’s brother Mycroft (played by Mark Gatiss). Watch below.
