George Clooney reacts to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce

The couple had been together since 2004, marrying in August 2014. They have six children together.
Clooney was attending the Leaders Summit For Refugees at the United Nations General Assembly in New York when he was asked about the split.

"I didn't know that. Wow. I feel very sorry then,” he told CNN in a clip you can watch below. "That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that. This is the first I've heard of it.”

The reasoning for the divorce was cited in the legal documents as "irreconcilable differences".

Jolie's lawyer Robert Offer, said in a statement that actress filed for "dissolution of marriage" and that the "decision was made for the health of the family".

"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," the statement added.

Earlier today (September 21), Pitt released his own statement which said: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

TMZ claims that Jolie is seeking physical custody and wants Pitt only to have joint legal custody of their children.
It claims: "Sources connected with the couple tell us... Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children... she was extremely upset with his methods."

"We're told there was no alleged 'third person'... her decision to file was solely over Brad's interaction with their children. Jolie... is not asking for spousal support."
